What is a Civil Funeral Celebrant?

A Civil Funeral Celebrant guides non-religious ceremonies, providing tailored funeral services according to the family’s wishes. I am fully qualified and accredited by the Institute of Civil Funerals (IoCF). This is a professional body established to train, asses and qualify Civil Funeral Celebrants throughout the United Kingdom. It has guaranteed standards for the services provided by its celebrants and is underpinned by a code of practice and continued professional development. In addition I am fully insured and regularly assessed and appraised both by the Institute as well as Funeral Directors and Crematorium staff.

I am not bound by any rules or regulations, and in reality I find that many families wish to include elements of religious or spiritual content.  Therefore I am happy to include hymns, prayers or indeed anything which helps a family say farewell to their loved one in a way that suits them.

Reading / Poem of the week

Where I Have Gone

Where I have gone I am not so small

My soul is as wide as the world is tall.

On butterflies wings, on wings of my own

To you I am gone, but I’m never alone, I am home
